BEWiSynbra launches the world’s first 100% recycled EPS

BEWiSynbra Group introduces EPS made from 100 per cent recycled material, successfully closing the loop for EPS and reducing waste and the environmental impact of its products.

Solna, Sweden, 24 October 2019: BEWiSynbra one of the leading integrated producers of expandable polystyrene (EPS) in Europe, is constantly working to improve and reduce the environmental impact of its products. Now BEWiSynbra has successfully produced 100 per cent recycled EPS, which in turn can be recycled again and again.

“This is breaking news! We are proud to introduce this new material made entirely from recycled EPS. For too long too much EPS has been incinerated, leading to unnecessary carbon dioxide emissions and waste. Our customers want sustainable solutions that minimize the impact on the environment,” says Alan Moss, Managing Director of BEWiSynbra RAW.

EPS is made from 98 per cent air, making it very well suited for preserving and transporting goods, as well as for insulation and construction. In addition to being lightweight, shock absorbing and very thermal efficient, the material is 100 per cent recyclable. The 100 per cent recycled EPS has as good shock-absorbing and thermal properties as virgin EPS.

BEWiSynbra has planned customer trials during the next few months. The company expects to start commercial deliveries to a selected number of external customers early 2020.

BEWiSynbra has been outspoken in its ambition to lead the change within the EPS industry to reach its sustainability targets.

“Used EPS parts are completely recyclable, making EPS waste a significant resource,” says Alan Moss.

BEWiSynbra Group has introduced several recycling initiatives, such as the Use Re-Use concept in Sweden in order to increase the collection of used EPS. In addition, the company has recently acquired two recycling companies to reach its goals going forward.

“This is breaking news! We are proud to introduce this new material made entirely from recycled EPS. For too long too much EPS has been incinerated, leading to unnecessary carbon dioxide emissions and waste. Our customers want sustainable solutions that minimize the impact on the environment.”
