Baum und Pferdgarten takes Danish fashion global with Verdane

Copenhagen โ€“ Verdane Capital X (โ€œVerdaneโ€) has agreed to invest in the Danish premium fashion brand Baum und Pferdgarten together with both co-founders and its CEO. The partnership will draw on Verdaneโ€™s e-commerce expertise to accelerate Baum und Pferdgartenโ€™s online sales, reinforce its digital capabilities and structure the brandโ€™s international growth. The company has recently signed a record number of international key accounts that include US-based Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Rent The Runway.

Founded in 1999 by Danish creative directors Helle Hestehave and Rikke Baumgarten, Baum und Pferdgarten designs premium clothes for women who want to have fun with their personal expression and tell their own story. Based out of Copenhagen, the companyโ€™s collections are available online and in selected retail spaces across more than 30 countries worldwide. The company re-launched its online shop in 2017 and is experiencing strong traction in the US. International wholesalers include UK-based Selfridges and Harvey Nichols.

โ€œHelle, Rikke, Teis and the whole Baum und Pferdgarten team have a proven ability to balance business with design. There is a strong focus on craftmanship and the unique Baum und Pferdgarten brand DNA. It resonates strongly with consumers, and we see significant growth potential both offline and online by helping the team build its digital and ecommerce capabilitiesโ€ says Martin Welna, Principal at Verdane.

The luxury apparel market is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. A key priority will be to ensure Baum und Pferdgarten can deliver an omnichannel experience to growing numbers of consumers searching for high-quality garments that will last longer to make consumption more environmentally sustainable.

Baum und Pferdgarten joins Verdaneโ€™s portfolio of 19 consumer internet companies across the Nordics and Germany, including Babyshop, Bemz, Boozt, Caliroots, Komplettapotek.no, Hem, momox, navabi, RoyalDesign and The Humble Co.

Creatives directors Helle Hestehave and Rikke Baumgarten as well as CEO Teis Bruun will reinvest in and remain with the company as part of the deal. Verdane will assume a majority stake as part of the transaction.

The parties have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transaction.
